Annapurna Circuit Trekking

Trip Overview

Annapurna Circuit Trekking is one of the classic treks in the world and on the must-do’ list for any serious trekker or adventurer’. It is highly popular among the trekkers. This trek starts right from Chamje which goes along the Marshyangdi River, with great views of Mount Manaslu and Himal Chuli in the background.

The magnificent trail leads through the fine villages inhabited by a wide diversity of people from different ethnic groups giving you an insight into the local culture and have an opportunity to interact with the local ethnic communities. On the other hand, you will be mesmerized by spectacular and majestic views of the white Himalayas. You will walk to the high and dry plateau-like in Tibet, the scenery is excessively breathtaking. The highest point of the trek is Thorong La pass at the top of the Manang valley at 5416 meters high. Because of the difficulties of crossing the pass, the circuit is normally organized in a counter-clockwise direction. Trekking clockwise is the longer ascent, so it is better to make the shorter descent from east to west (anti-clockwise). Trekking clockwise is too much difficult for many trekkers to manage in one day. Sometimes it may be risky while crossing the Thorong La pass due to the bad weather, such as snowing heavy, strong winds locking of the trail, etc.

After we make the descent to Muktinath from Thorung La pass, we continue our trek to the barren land of Tibetan- like a village along the Kali Gandaki – the world’s deepest gorge pass between the giant Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains. After visiting Muktinath we walk further down to Jomsom and we catch a flight to Pokhara.

The best time to do the Annapurna Circuit trek is in October- November when the monsoon season ends. The heavy rains have cleared the air, making views of the Himalayas dazzling. This autumn season is also considered a safe time because the slopes are not too moist and slippery. And, the temperature is just right, neither too hot nor too cold.

One can also do the trek in early spring–March, and April–before the monsoon season begins. This is another good option. The rhododendrons and other flowers are in full bloom, beautifying the trails with spectacular colors. Spring is the warmest time, which makes it appealing to travelers who don’t like the cold.
