Travel Insurance

Traveling to another country needs to combine an element of adventure and risk, and a certain level of preparation is required to take on a particular activity. Tara Treks Nepal (P) Ltd. requests you purchase an insurance that is comprehensive enough to cover all possibilities that may arise during your stay in Nepal.

As mentioned in the Terms and Conditions of Tara Treks Nepal, the agency is exempt of being liable to different expenses that may occur in case of different emergency or unforeseen situations. According to law in Nepal, a foreigner or non-resident is not allowed to purchase insurance once they are in Nepal. Because of these issues, it is the requirement of our clients to purchase a comprehensive travel insurance plan in their country of origin that protects them in case of trip cancellation, helicopter evacuation, medical emergencies, other illnesses, lost luggage, theft, disasters, death, among other issues.

Key points to remember about your travel insurance plan:

In case of accidents, or sickness, you may be evacuated through helicopter. Tourism agencies can make provisions for helicopter evacuation in case of emergency, but will not be involved in any financial matters that arise. And in the unlikely event that they do, they will seek compensation for their expenses.

If you do not obtain an insurance plan that specifically covers helicopter rescue, the resulting expenses can become financially onerous to you.Apart from rescue events, medical treatments for accidents in high altitudes and cold temperatures are very expensive. In certain instances, a mobile medical team will have to accompany the helicopter crew to the base camps, which further increases the medical expenses. Because of this, it is necessary that you are properly insured for any medical condition and emergency situation.

While purchasing travel insurance, it is wise to completely explain your circumstances, where you are traveling to, and making sure your insurance agent understands you and circumstances fully. Your itinerary should be disclosed to the insurance agent and risks involved should be openly discussed before choosing an insurance plan. This ensures you will be able to understand what is agreeable to the insurance company. It also makes an insurance claim much easier, in case of emergencies.

Consultation with multiple insurance providers before finally choosing an insurance policy is recommended. Mountaineering is a very challenging task that contains a higher level of risk, so it is essential to specifically mention ‘mountaineering’ or ‘alpinism’ while discussing your needs with insurance providers.

Any deposits made prior to a trip are not refundable, due to our own local obligations in Nepal. Because of this issue, it is important that you are also insured against trip cancellation.

It is mandatory for you to provide us with a copy of your insurance policy (or insurance certificate), so that we can take the necessary steps during the time of emergencies.
